I kinda want to grow out my hair like this... or maybe shorter but im trying to figure out what this person is using on his hair. Is it just hair spray? or a type of hair wax... or what! His hair looks really soft and not hard n shiny like wax or gel.... what could it be?

That looks like it is a combination of products and techniques. Probably a styling creme followed by blow-drying with a round brush, then a flattening iron, finished with a dryer wax product (like sumo tech by bumble and bumble) and spray. This style probably works best if your hair isn't too thick.

I recently became a mother and do not have time to spend 30 minutes daily blow drying, but i do not want short hair, because i look terrible! If i dont blow dry, it takes ages until it is dry! Get it thinned. Do not cut it! It's gonna look really bad. Just keep the length a couple inches below the shoulders. Use Sunsilk De-Frizz shampoo and conditioner. It comes in the green bottles from Target, Costco, Walmart, and any drugstore for just $2 a bottle. It's especially for wavy/curly hair and managing it.

Shampoo your hair every other day, condition every day. Rinse out the conditioner with super cold water, that will leave your hair shiny.

Stop using heat styling products, they're really bad for your hair.

Use some mousse to shape your hair into curls in the morning. Just form ringlets with your fingers, randomly. It doesn't take more than 3 minutes.

Avoid brushing your hair after you mousse style it.

I would have it razored to thin it out and have some long layers put in. .this will make it lighter and much faster to blowdry. Try washing it every other day. .if it gets oily use a hair powder like Aveda's Pure Abundance in the roots. Its pricey but def worth it! I love the stuff.

I also really like the John Frieda Super Skinny Serum. I use it on my hair after its towel dried. .dont put it in roots just run it through halfway to ends of hair. It makes a pretty big difference in my drying time and Im sure youll love it if you try it too!

Pink to an inch below the ends of your ears is cool and wild, no no to piercings and tattoos.

If the problem is that it flips out instead of under try directing it back when u blow dry it. Or you could try a flat iron and then blow dry the roots for volume, and a round brush on the ends so it goes under.

side bangs and lots of layers would look really cute. maybe a little bit longer than shoulder length. bleaching your hair could do alot of damage, so maybe dye it black and bleach the ends or something. also,if youre willing to put in the time you could flat-iron your hair everyday. hope i helped.

Yeh so i've decided to grow my hair again...Tried about half a year ago but it took forever so I ended up going pretty short round near christmas..

Few more things...Do you have to have specific hair type for this type of style, mine is almost identical looking to the alex turner pic but maybe a little lighter. Also like I said before ive tried this before to the point where my hair went over my ears but only to the bottom of my ear so it basicaly covered my ear and stopped. This made my head seem huge like mushroom, does it look better once it gets past the ears?

it'll take about 6 months for that length,

as far as I can tell.

for that look your hair may need to be slightly curly,

but that could be fixed with a little product.

or a straightener can create that look.

once your hair gets to the proper length,

you can get that look by straightening your hair,

and then as you pull the flat iron over your hair,

turn it upwards for some spots, and downwards for others.

I've been to (2) white stylists, and neither was qualified to do my hair. They "assumed" the products they used on their regular clients would work. I learned that you have to ask their qualifications and if they have had the necessary training to style, perm, cut, and otherwise maintain African American hair. Some do, some don't. I have since met a white hairstylist who can do my hair like nobody's business! She's great! BUT she trained and has had experience.

I think the people who said it was racist, did not fully understand the question. Yes, ANYBODY can "cut" hair, but not EVERYBODY can maintain just anybody's hair.

I looked them all over and I just don't have a good feeling about it. I've had a few clients experience some major depression after going for drastic cuts and color. Have you thought of trying the scene cut? It's pretty funky with all those wild choppy layers and would work great with an intense color, but it would leave you with a little length if you weren't so thrilled with having a shorter 'do it wouldn't be so tragic to grow it out. And if you still want it really short you can always go get another cut. I'm probably overly cautious, I'd just hate to think that you might be very upset with losing all that length after it was too late.

I would start with a hair cut (trim off dead ends) and see about some highlights and move on from there. Anything drastic will be nice to start with but the fun will wear off and you'll be stuck bleaching hair and before too long you won't be able to do anything but bleach it because the last 4 inches or so will be unable to hold color and the ends will be split beyond repair.

you have a long face so i would say no to the bob cut because it wouldn't suit very well. What I would do is keep it the same length but put in long layers and make sure one of the layers ends just below your chin to make your face rounder.

Clairol is a free site to use if u upload a pic of yourself. Not sure how many hair styles they have, mostly for the color of your hair. Try hair mags. They have several at any newsstand, grocery store or any local store. Browse through them and pic out something u like. Not sure don't go so short with a cut. Hair styles u can always wash out but a cut u have to live with a minute until your hair grows back. Maybe get a wig that would match the style and see how much u like it. They are very affordable these days and if u cannot find one to match get one and cut it like the style u want. Better to find out on a wig then your own hair something u like or don't. Goog luck!

ok, well i think that you can definetely keep the length without a problem, infact your probably better off keeping it because it can be made into many more styles.

for a punky yet feminine look i would go for a thick bold fringe, very slicey and punky. Keep the fringe longer for more of an edgy look.

Because your hair is so straight (which, by the way, is great!) you should think about getting lots of choppy layers in your hair, to add bulk and life to those pin straight locks.

For colouring your hair, i think platinum blonde is the colour of the moment and would be great for the style i described above. Very white.

If you want to go radically punky, you can always look into more crazy ideas like short hair on one side, and long hair on the other side (courtney love style) or maybe even a mowhawk!

Dark red hair is always very endearing and dangerous looking, thats if your complexion and colouring suit it.

if your pale with blue eyes, then it might just be right for you.

Yes! Chi straighteners are fantastic. My friend uses it and it looks amazing. Personally, a stylist reccomended a Kresso Damp to Dry. It was about $150, and worth every penny. It's really durable. It heats in a minute and has different heat settings. I prefer it over a Chi.

I have had really short hair and now I want to grow it out to achieve a longer style. I have been to several stylists over the last several years, but I don't seem to be conveying the message. I always end up with shorter on top and longer on sides and back, which looks funny if you are working toward an overall longer look. Since I have had this problem with more than one stylist, I'd like to know what to say to help them understand what I want. I have tried pictures and telling them that my hair is now short and I want it to be long. Is there something specific I should be saying?

I want an edgier haircut for school this year. Im in Highschool and my hair is currently fair blonde(about two shades lighter than Ashley Simpsons), falls about 3 inches below my shoulders, and has layers. I have long sideswept bangs. So I have very wavy hair. It used to be really curly, and in the last year or so I've lost a lot of curl. It's somewhere in between curly and wavy. Anyway, it's in long layers, and I need help figuring out how to do an up-do. I have a long face, so short hair does me no justice. My big problem is humidity of any kind. If it's even slightly humid my waves go frizzy and the hair surrounding my face gets all kinky and weird. I just started a new job, and my hair has to be up. I want to know how I can style it so it's cute all through my shift, and will hold up in the humidity. Any ideas?

I recommend that new "Sunsilk" stuff (Get Hairapy). Try their green one for Frizz. It works WONDERS on curly/wavy hair!

My hair is pretty curly with some waves to it, and ever since I started using Sunsilk, my hair is soooo much less frizzy. I picked up some free samples last year and have been buying it ever since.

For best results, use the shampoo and conditioner in the shower and put the "24/7 Creme" in after you towel-dry your hair (NOT blow dry). Toussle it with your hands a little bit and let it air dry if you want to leave it dow (when not at work, I know you said it needs to be up for work). If you're prefer a ponytail or that "half-ponytail/half-down style" (I don't know what it's called), then comb it into that style and then toussle it and let air dry. Reapply a little more creme if you need to, especially around your face.

High ponytails and loose, messy buns always look nice, especially with curly hair. You can also get those alligator clips and twist your hair up and clip it, leaving hair falling down over the clip a little bit. Try and stick to those for some simple, quick, fall-back styles. You don't need to spend hours and hours on a hairstyle just for work.

There's ones for "Poof" too (blue), but I find that the "De-Frizz" one (green) works the best. Try both and see what works best for you.

Try using mayo. Mayo makes your hair soft. The longer you leave the mayo in your hair, the better. Nasty, I know. Just use with shampoo and/or conditioner.

I'm extremely inept to all aspects of hair styling and management. Ive tired to grow out my hair several times back in high school but it looked terrible.

Since then (im 19 with 20 coming soon) I have just went with the basic short on the sides with a little more on the top. I havent had a hair cut in about 3 months to let it grow out, but it doesn't look very appealing and its getting to the point where i cant style it very well at all.

My hair consistency is rather thick and wavy in some areas and not so wavy in other areas.

if you were in my shoes and wanted to keep growing out your hair for a shaggy look what you propose i say or do next time i visit a stylist?

My first question is do you use styling product? If your hair is thick and wavy, it is hard to get it to look good unless you use some kind of product to tame down the wave, and then the thickness is no help to that either. My next question is what kind of texture is your hair? Coarse, fine, normal? It also depends on this when you are growing out your hair. All of these can make a difference when growing your hair out!

Tell them up front that you want to grow your hair back out but you want it styled so you look decent in the mean time. Keep going back to that same stylist till it has grown out where you want it to be.

I went to the hair dressers today and when I came home I noticed that it is cut wrong AGAIN! This is not something she did that could be a misundestanding either,it's just wrong. I have my hair angled on the sides . The hair is cut right on one side,but the other it is angled into the back, the back hair should not be cut in with the side. When I brush it I can see that it looks like I have a piece missing. This is not something that can be fixed right now either. I won't go to just any hair dresser either,I see people with hair that I like and then go to their hair dresser. I never ask for a hair style that won't go with my hair type,I have straight fine hair,but allot of it. My hair really shows if it was cut wrong. Within two years I have tried 7 different hair dressers and none of them cut my hair even and a couple of them flat out butchered my hair. I'm still growing some layers out that were way to short ,ON ONE SIDE. Am I asking to much to have my hair cut right?

I'm sorry I had the same problem but with my SON I'm always trying to get him the style that fits him but everywhere I go they mess up his hair, for some reason they cut too much even I explain what exactly I want. The worst I had to go thru was Fantastic Sam's the girl in there really cut all my sons beutiful hair I was really upset, my friends and mom wanted me to go back and tell the manager or owner but I don't have a heart to get someone in trouble at least not any more.

This happened to me once and it was horrible. I went back to the hairdresser and made her fix it. For one thing, she needs to know that she was doing something wrong. She'll also learn from her mistake and hopefully won't do it to anyone else.

Honestly, I have found that when it comes to hair, you get what you pay for. You really ought to be going to someone who has been doing it for at least 5 years. Everytime I've gotten a butcher job, it's been by some apprentice fresh out of school or when I've stopped into a chain like Great Clips for just a trim.

I've never had the what happened to you happen to me, but I totally know where you are coming from. I switched hairdressers a bunch of times before I found one that does my hair the way I like. Most of the time it would look good at the shop, but the first time I washed it and tried to style it, it would never look as good as it did the first time. My suggestion would be to talk to your friends and get reccomended to someone who a lot of people like. Thats how I found mine. I liked my sister in laws hair style and asked where she got hers done. Now I won't go to anyone else. It sux and could take some time, but it works out in the end.

Yes, I know what you mean about the missing piece. I went to Regis and got a chunk cut out of the side. It looked awful. I went back the next day and nicely asked the stylist "I can't seem to style this cut right. Would you take a look at it. It seems shorter right here." She looked at the cut and said I was right. But she had to cut the whole style shorter to make it blend, or she could cut the other side to match. I had it all cut shorter, liked it better, looked much better. She worked slowly and carefully and it looked great. But I have seen people rant and rave about a bad cut and end up looking worse (like a jerk in front of the store and alike a lawnmower ran ovr their heads). Just remember to be nice and I kind of placed the blame on myself (not being able to style it). Then she saw that it was her bad cut.

I am so sorry this is happening to you. I realy dont know what to say. I only go to a hairdresser if their clients hair looks good. Do you ever go back to the same hair dresser? Or do you express your concerns before you leave the salon? This is an important question. Keep in mind also that high prices doesnt actually mean high quality!

ask for a cut with your hair dry. DRY. And not dried in the salon, but straight from home. I read this technique is specially good for hair like yours. So style it yourself with no heavy products, and then go for a haircut, Impose yourself, so they do what you want. Try to tell them the effect you want to achieve, instead of telling exactly what parts should be cut or not... That way the result actually blends, cause they will be doing something they actually know how to do.

I had this thing too, even when my hair is diferent to yours, but then I read all this thing, and learned from experience, and I did not had this "chopped" results again. Stylist don't know how t make exactly what you want... They have their techniques. Maybe a barber is better for following instructions, like someone said, but I wouldn't take the risk if istakes are so noticeable as in your case.

I have the same exact pomblem as you I got bangs and I regret it. Wash your hair with cold water this will make your hair lay flatter and it will become shinier and get rid of frizz. I pin my bangs to the side or up in a bump I also reccomend sweeping them to the side. You can also part your hair to the side and them pin your bangs to the side and sweep the hair over them witch looks really cute. I hope this helps.

u dont like your bangs... i would suggest you wear a bobby pin (black or any cute color) or use a thick hair band (choose any color to suit your mood). :)

you can get a geometric cut for your bangs or just the vertical one. it'll help soften the look.

I looked them all over and I just don't have a good feeling about it. I've had a few clients experience some major depression after going for drastic cuts and color. Have you thought of trying the scene cut? It's pretty funky with all those wild choppy layers and would work great with an intense color, but it would leave you with a little length if you weren't so thrilled with having a shorter 'do it wouldn't be so tragic to grow it out. And if you still want it really short you can always go get another cut. I'm probably overly cautious, I'd just hate to think that you might be very upset with losing all that length after it was too late.

I would start with a hair cut (trim off dead ends) and see about some highlights and move on from there. Anything drastic will be nice to start with but the fun will wear off and you'll be stuck bleaching hair and before too long you won't be able to do anything but bleach it because the last 4 inches or so will be unable to hold color and the ends will be split beyond repair.

okay... so back in May I cut my hair some.. I was just starting to grow it out and decided to get extensions.. i've done the glue in kind before but this time I went to the salon to do fusion... the extensions turned out to be really dried out and looked horrible because of the quality. My hair on top was shiny and the extensions were dried and dull. In order to get the extensions I had to get my hair thinned and texturized (something I promised myself i would never do again after 2 bad expierences last year doing this).... anyways i get the extensions taken out this week and am scared of what its going to look like... I have hair to my shoulders and now its going to be really layered... I'm thinking of trying bangs... or maybe a shorter look. Any suggestions? I've included a couple pics with long hair (only recent pics i have).... any ideas of cute hair styles i should do are welcome!!!

hmm...I think you should definently take the extentions out and go for a maybe 2 inch layer, but make sure its soft enough, you don't want it to look too severe. also, the bangs could be shorter, maybe a little bit below eye level?

I love your hair! It's so pretty, why would you want to change it? The color is perfect. Maybe you could cut it one inch, but not more than that. Your bangs are kinda long too. Get them cut 1-2 inches.

side bangs and lots of layers would look really cute. maybe a little bit longer than shoulder length. bleaching your hair could do alot of damage, so maybe dye it black and bleach the ends or something. also,if youre willing to put in the time you could flat-iron your hair everyday. hope i helped.
